Ever wondered if you’re following the right aftercare after your Brow Microblading appointment?
You know those dreaded times when your client comes back with poor retention and you start to panic and think, where the heck did I go wrong? Well, it just may be your pre-care or aftercare that needs adjusting!
There are SO many conflicting theories around aftercare. I’ve found over the years that aftercare changes and improves as more and more research is conducted.
What I’ve found is that the right microblading pre-care and aftercare can truly make a massive difference in your results. Knowing just how important prep and aftercare are, I’ve researched and experimented with many techniques and combinations. I’ve done dry techniques, wet techniques, washing, no washing, I’ve tried various products, creams, ointments… you name it, I’ve tested it.
I want to break down the theory behind pre-care and after care, to help you modify your own techniques, and hopefully this helps you get better retention.
LETS START WITH THE PREP:
This truly is your bread and butter, to your treatment. If your client turns up and she hasn’t done any prep, then you can get some not so nice surprises when you start working.
Like bleeding…
Bleeding during your treatment will dilute the pigment and give you average healed results.
You will get much better results when you properly prep. It all starts with a good canvas! The procedure area must be healthy, strong, non-sensitive and non-irritated. Here’s how to get your skin ready for the procedure.
-
Avoid blood thinning medications for 5-7 days before their appointment
-
No alcohol 48 hours before their appointment
-
No pain medication on the day of appointment
-
No fish oil, primrose oil, vitamin E, etc 7 days prior
-
No facials or peels 2 weeks prior
-
No botox 2 weeks prior
-
No exercise on the day of the appointment
-
No Caffeine on the day of the appointment
-
Do not pick/tweeze/wax/perform electrolysis one week before the procedure
-
Do not tan two weeks prior or have sunburned face/skin
-
No waxing/tinting 7 days before the appointment
Implementing this has truly transformed my healed results, as it’s limited the amount of bleeding on the day of their Microblading treatment.
It may sound excessive but one week of prep for 12-18months worth of great brows is a good compromise if you ask me!
NOW FOR YOUR AFTERCARE –
After your Microblading service, your client is going to go through around 2 weeks of healing.
Our main goal for the healing phase is to keep the area clean (limit the chance of infection) and to also let the Microbladed strokes heal into the skin.
There are some crucial do’s and don’ts to ensure your client doesn’t ruin her perfect brows, that you want them to follow for around 10 days after their treatment
IMPORTANT REMINDERS TO TELL YOUR CLIENTS:
-
Let any dry skin naturally exfoliate away. Picking can cause scarring or loss of colour
-
No botox for two weeks after their treatment
-
No chemical facial treatments or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks
-
Avoid hot, sweaty exercise for one week
-
Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks after the procedure. Wear a hat when outdoors and apply spf straight over the brows after 4 weeks.
-
Avoid heavy sweating and long hot showers for the first 10 days.
-
Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days
-
Avoid swimming, beaches, hot tubs for the first 10 days
-
Avoid makeup including sunscreen on the area for the first 10 days (around the area is fine, as long as there is no contact to the tattoo)
You can recommend baby wipes to your clients, to help them wash their face without needing much water. This will prevent any products or water getting into the area.
The best way to ensure your pre care and after care are working – is to test it out. Make sure you’re documenting what you did on your clients, so when they return for their touch ups – you know exactly what you did.
